About the Course

Welcome to the Seminar on Canine Reproduction 2025! This event offers 5 hours of lectures covering common reproduction topics in small animal medicine. As the name implies this seminar focuses on our canine patients, however we will also lightly cover our feline friends. This seminar is geared towards veterinarians, veterinary students, and the savvy breeder. Content focuses on clinically applicable knowledge and techniques. Lectures will be given virtually live, and then recordings will be available for viewing for 2 months afterwards.

Lectures

Repro 101: The Basic Bitch

This session is intended to review female physiology, estrus cycle, and management of breeding. Will focus on how to track and plan a breeding using vaginal cytology, progesterone measurements, and behavior. Will briefly discuss different methods of AI, and reproduction in cats. A good warm up lecture to review the basics.

Common Repro Cases in General Practice

Will go over some common reproductive cases likely to be seen in general practice including cryptorchidism, feline mammary hyperplasia, mammary neoplasia, mastitis, benign prostatic hypertrophy, and urethral prolapse. Focus is on clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of these cases start to finish.

Reproductive Emergencies

This lecture focuses on common reproductive emergencies and working them up in a step-wise fashion in a GP setting. Topics will include Brucellosis, testicular torsion, pyometra, vaginal prolapse, and eclampsia.

C-Section Success!

Covers comprehensive Cesarean Section management including emergency c-sections and planned c-sections. Reviews how these cases are triaged, anesthetic protocols, and tips to help improve outcomes. Will also discuss neonatal resuscitation and evaluation.

The Male 101: Supporting The Swimmers

Covers workup of stud dogs including physiology review, semen collection and evaluation, and components of a breeding soundness exam. Case examples are used to demonstrate workup of fertility concerns.
